What is slabbing?

Encapsulating a trading card refers to the process of encasing the card in a protective holder made of clear plastic, often with a tamper-evident seal. This process is commonly referred to as “slabbing” and is usually done by professional grading companies such as PSA, BGS or SGC.

Slabbing helps to protect the card from damage and deterioration, as well as preserving its condition and value over time.  The card information is then recorded on the holder’s label, along with information about the card’s identity and other relevant details.

Encapsulated trading cards are often preferred by collectors and investors because they provide a more secure and reliable way to protect and display their collections.

How much does it cost?

You can currently slab a card with Slabd for A$12 / per card.

Is there a discount for bulk slabbing?

Yes! Slab 10 or more cards in one order and the cost is A$10 / per card.

How long does it take to slab a card?

The time can vary depending on how large your order is.  Generally we will complete your order in 5 days or less.  More often than not they are completed on the same day!

Can I drop my cards off for slabbing?

Yes! Most of the time we can complete your cards on the spot, so you can walk right out with them.

What cards can I slab?

Right now we can slab any standard sized sports card or TCG (Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Digimon) card.  Soon we will be able to slab Yu-Gi-Oh! and small vintage cigarette cards.

We cannot slab cards thicker than 35pt.

Do you grade the card as well as slabbing them?

Currently, we aren’t grading cards.  We have developed a 5-star rating system (example below) which me may introduce in the future, but at this stage we only slab them.

Can I remove my card from the slab?

As your card is sealed within in the plastic you cannot remove the card without breaking open the slab.

How do you seal the cards?

We use an ultrasonic welding machine which is a type of equipment that uses high-frequency vibrations to bond plastic together without the need for adhesives, screws, or other fasteners. The process works by generating ultrasonic vibrations at a frequency of around 20 kHz, which creates friction and that fuses the plastic together.

What do your labels look like?
